This hybrid, affectionately known as Hawaiian Lights, is a cross between Purest Indica and Northern Lights #5—both of which I received directly from Seattle Greg, the same individual who provided the original Northern Lights genetics to The Holland Seed Bank in 1984. This cross brings the project full circle, blending two cornerstone lines that shaped the evolution of modern indoor cultivation.

Purest Indica: Resin-Rich, Old-School Foundation

The Steve Murphy Afghan, also known as Purest Indica, is a fast-flowering, compact Afghan variety that produces dense, resin-coated buds, low internodal spacing, and a classic broadleaf canopy. It's a true heritage line, reminiscent of the best selections from the 1980s, with deep aroma and consistent structural traits.

Northern Lights #5: Structure, Strength, and Stability

NL#5 is one of the most influential hybrids ever released. Originally preserved from 1980s seed stock, it’s known for its tight formation, high resin production, and fast, indoor-friendly cycle. Crossing it back to Purest Indica—one of its original parents—brings new vigor while reinforcing its base traits.

The Hybrid: Hawaiian Lights (Purest Indica x NL#5)

This line functions as a backcross, strengthening Purest Indica traits while drawing on the refined structure of NL#5. Expect increased variation between individuals—ideal for phenohunting projects where you're looking to select standout expressions. Growth is typically slow in veg and fast in flower, finishing in as little as 8 to 9 weeks.

This hybrid shows dense, resin-heavy flowers, broadleaf structure, and a deep, musky-sweet aromatic profile. It’s one of Seattle Greg’s favorite combinations—personally referred to by him as “Hawaiian Lights.”
